Labor state election promise: $7 million for kids cycling and walking to school

Today, we attended the announcement of the Labor Party launching their $7 million plan to get kids active riding and walking to school.

The Labor Party was represented by

– Michael Daley MP – Leader of the Opposition
– Jodi McKay MP – Member for Strathfield & Shadow Minister for Transport & Roads, and
– Marjorie O’Neill – Labor candidate for Coogee

Labor commits to:

  • Work with schools and councils towards dedicated cycle paths
  • Deliver additional bike racks and secure storage sheds
  • Provide education programs to give students and parents the skills and confidence to ride safely to school

Full Labor press release available here.

This is a great step in getting active travel in the political conversation.  Bicycle NSW also attended and their write-up is here.

We hope this inspires other candidates and parties to make similar commitments to support active transport.

Afterwards, we took the opportunity to show off the ease and benefits of folding bikes!
