Randwick Council rolling out 50 x O-Rings for bicycle parking

Jan 2018 Update: We’ve been following this up since Sep 2017 and Randwick Council have now advised the contractor has 10 o-rings in stock, so they’ve asked for them to be installed on Belmore Rd.  The remaining rings will take approx. 4-6 weeks to be manufactured, and 2 weeks for installation. They anticipate some will be installed in February, and the rest in late March / early April.

Randwick City Council are about to install 50 O-Ring bicycle parking spots around the area over the next 2-3 months.

What is an O-Ring? – A metal loop that is installed on poles (mostly parking signs) to enable bicycles to be locked more securely. O-Rings are great as they stop bicycles from falling over while locked.

In addition to requesting O-Rings be installed all along Belmore Rd (between Alison Rd High St) – Randwick, all around The Spot – Randwick, and outside every school and major intersection, we suggested these specific locations based on supporter feedback:

Bicycle Rack Height

Have you noticed that locking up to the new bicycle parking racks at Royal Randwick Shopping Centre can be a little awkward?

BIKEast friends discovered that the bicycle racks are actually 92cm tall, a little taller than the usual 80cm height!

Therefore, we’ve asked Randwick City Council to develop guidelines for bicycle rack installations across the local government area to ensure all facilities are as easy to use as possible.
