NSW State Election 2019 – Cycling asks & candidate responses – Coogee electorate

Funding for the Regional Bike Route Network

The NSW Liberal Party has committed $330 million to the development of bike route network (over the next 5 years) while the Labor Party has promised $412 million for ‘active transport’ projects (over the next 5 years).

Will you lobby to ensure that the higher of these two commitments are actually delivered in the next term of government?

BIKEast’s priorities include the development of an Inner Sydney Regional Cycle network and similar initiatives aligned with the State Government’s Sydney Cycling Future and Greater Sydney Commission’s Green Grid to improve regional route connectivity.

Do you support the development of this network and, specifically, can you assure us that you will lobby for the following projects in the next term of government?

  • Construction of the Bondi Junction cycleway proposed by Waverley Council – between Centennial Park (York Rd) and Bondi Junction (Bondi Rd).
  • Construction of a high-standard, protected cycleway along Bundock St between South Coogee (Malabar Rd) and Randwick South (Avoca St).
  • Further planning/consultation for a high-standard bike route in along Darley Rd and Macpherson St between Centennial Park (York Rd) and Bronte (Albion St).
  • Initiation of planning/consultation for a high-standard, protected cycleway along Botany St, Randwick (between High St and Barker St) in association with the Randwick Campus Redevelopment project.
  • Initiation of planning/consultation for a high-standard bike route linking the ‘Randwick Education & Health Centre’ to Bondi Junction growth/employment hubs via Bronte Rd, Albion St and Frenchmans Rd.
  • Wayfinding study and installation of signage for the Eastern Sydney Bays & Beaches Route (scenic coastal bike route) between South Bondi and South Coogee.

Will you lobby for funding to support the Safe-Streets Neighbourhood approach and similar strategies to encourage active travel in your electorate?

Will you lobby for funding to support strategies to encourage more children to walk and ride to school?
